It is obvious to most people that the war Nato is fighting against Yugoslavia is very costly. Already our Government will have had to consider making spending cuts at home because of the escalation of this conflict.

Another massive problem and "hidden cost" is the damage done to the River Danube and the economies of Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary.

Nato has blocked the use of the Danube by blowing up so many of its bridges and this prevents the other Balkan nations exporting their goods for "hard" cash to Western Europe.

These East European nations were just starting to become healthy economically and gearing themselves up to EU standards and hopefully joining before so very long. Now much of that is ruined by Nato's actions, it has made a bad job even worse.
