Your feature Guild Looks To Future by Emma Harrison (May 10) is most evocative, and reminds me of great kindness and good times.

My mother was a keen member of the Townswomen's Guild (Hull Road, York branch) and the ladies warmly welcomed me - then a troublesome teenager - into their midst.

They gave me roles to 'act' in their plays and I found their speakers interesting and social occasions exciting.

On those afternoons when my mother attended her guild meetings, my dad and I cooked tea - always our speciality - black pudding with lashings of mustard accompanied by white bread with real butter.
