The RSPCA was today investigating after another greyhound was found bound and drowned in York.
The dog's decomposing remains were discovered in a field off Bad Bargain Lane, Burnholme, only yards from a cattle trough where two other greyhounds were found tied up and drowned last year.
The animal found today had been tied around the legs, body and neck with wire and then apparently dumped in a ditch of water. It was spotted by a dog walker after the water had evaporated away.
RSPCA Chief Inspector Paul Stilgoe said: "There's no excuse for treating an animal like this in the nineties."
And he appealed for help from the public as he investigates the animal's "abhorrent" death. He wanted to speak to anyone who had seen the dog being dumped or could help him trace the dog's owner.
Local resident Anthea Burnett, who contacted the RSPCA after hearing that a dog walker had seen the greyhound, said: "It's just revolting. It's mind-boggling to me that someone could do this. I just abhor cruelty to animals."
