Scarborough go into their biggest game of their 12-year stay in the Football League knowing they can finally steer themselves out of the relegation mire.

What a difference a week makes - defeat against Halifax and victory over Hartlepool by Carlisle last Saturday would have sent the Seasiders crashing back into the Conference.

Now it will all come down to the final day of the season and it is Scarborough who hold all the aces.

Wednesday night's emphatic 3-0 win over Plymouth Argyle means the Seasiders have their Football League destiny in their own hands.

A win at the McCain Stadium tomorrow against Peterborough United and they are definitely safe from the drop.

And even if Boro lose, anything less than a win from Carlisle should see the Seasiders to safety courtesy of having scored more goals - 49 to the Cumbrians' 41.

However, Carlisle must be confident of securing all three points at home to Plymouth.

The Seasiders ended Argyle's play-off hopes, leaving them with nothing but pride to play for.

Boro boss Colin Addison, who is set to name an unchanged side, said: "The players have worked very hard and have given me everything I could have asked for.

"I have tried to instil confidence in them and give them some belief and they have responded well. There are some good players here and they don't deserve to be relegated."

Ironically, it's old enemy Barry Fry who is threatening the Seasiders' stay in the League. Fry was boss of Barnet back in 1987 when the Bees were odds on favourites to win promotion from the then Vauxhall Conference.

But a late surge saw the Seasiders upset the odds and claim the championship. Now Boro can also upset Fry's best laid plans for a second time as they also plot to save their own skin.

The Posh are just one place and one point behind Halifax who occupy the final play-off zone.

With more goals scored, a point would be enough to lift them above Halifax should the Shaymen lose at Exeter.

However, with Swansea level on points and having played a game less than United, Fry's Peterborough must surely be gunning for all three points.
