In March last year I was in York during the European Union's ECOFIN conference and was appalled by the number of EU flags on display above public buildings, particularly York Minster. I wrote to complain to the Minster authorities and received a hostile and unrepentant reply from the administrator who was a retired senior Army officer.
He seemed unaware that the aims of the EU follow on from the previous attempts such as that of the Kaiser and Hitler to destroy Britain's freedom and to grind our independence to dust under the heavy heel of foreign domination.
One would expect a retired Army officer to understand this.
But, as far as the Church of England is concerned, the matter is even worse. The Church of England is governed by 39 articles and the 37th declares that the sovereign is the chief power in the realm and is not subject to any foreign jurisdiction.
The European Communities Act 1972 destroys this concept and relegates the Queen to become a citizen of the European Union.
Sunday is 'Europe Day' when it has become a custom to fly the EU flag above public buildings to remind us of our subservience to this foreign administrations. I hope the people of York will complain vociferously if the Minster authorities submit once again to this disgraceful act of disloyalty.
