If you are considering moving into a residential or nursing home, or if you have an older relative in a home, you may like to have more information about how to get help with funding.
Living in a care home can be very costly, and although some people may be able to pay their own fees, many will, at some stage, need help to meet the cost of their care.
The rules about paying for care can be complicated, and you may wish to have help in understanding the system.
Counsel and Care, a national charity with an advice service for older people, has produced a factsheet which explains how the funding system works.
You can obtain this by sending a 9ins x 6ins stamped addressed envelope to me at the address below. Alternatively, we also run a national advice line (0845 300 7585, a local call rate number, open every weekday from 10.30am to 4pm) through which our trained advice workers can advise on funding as well as benefits, community care, choosing a home, or any other matter of concern to older people.
