The National Farmers Union and the Chamber of Commerce are concerned about the economy of York and North Yorkshire.
Earlier this year we wrote to local MPs and MEPs to register our concern about a wide range of issues including:
The impact of declining farm revenues on the wider economy.
The apparent lack of understanding of the needs of business in York and North Yorkshire.
The absence of meaningful plans in the Government's Transport White Paper of 1998.
The lack of understanding of the role played by farmers and other rural business in maintaining the rural infrastructure.
In York and North Yorkshire the interdependence of rural areas and the pockets of urban concentration must be understood. Our area has much to commend it, we believe elected representatives must play their part in seeking to protect and develop the economy for the benefit of all.
