I Read with interest Jean Johnson's letter (April 20) about Grimston Bar roundabout and I agree that drivers are to blame. I use the Hull Road up to the roundabout every day and drivers pass me at 60mph-plus in what is a 40mph limit.
They just about always ignore the red lights at Grimston Bar, and most other places as well. Remember, amber means stop and lights should be approached at such a speed that you can do so. Buses, including Park & Ride, are among the worst for ignoring lights and speed limits between the centre of York and the Grimston Bar car park. The other week a bus driver went through two red lights, 'cut up' a cyclist, swerved to overtake a car when approaching the pedestrian crossing on the Hull road, then drove on the dual carriageway at well over the 40 mph limit.
My wife and I used Park & Ride just before Christmas and a different driver also broke the law. These are the only times I have used this service during the last year or so.
I am a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists and while I think stricter enforcement and heavier penalties should be used, perhaps all drivers should do the advanced test. The institute runs a fleet training scheme. Maybe Rider (York) should use it for their drivers.
