YORK'S livestock centre at Murton was home to a very different kind of auction today - hundreds of motorbikes.
Motorbike enthusiasts from throughout the region crowded into the centre for the massive sale of bikes of every shape and size - from classic dream machines to rusting old crocks fit only for spares.
The auction, held from 1pm to 4pm today, was York Motor Auctions first motorbike auction at the livestock centre.
John Falshaw, operations manager, said: "This is the first sale of its kind in North Yorkshire for many years and we hope the first of many."
Bikes for sale included Norton Navigators going for more than £2000, 1959 BSA 500 Shooting Star, Suzuki 380GT Triple and Honda Motor Cross.
John, said: "We have had a good range of quality bikes, with a broad selection of English and Japanese bikes. We wanted to have a bike for everyone, ranging from classics to general usage. The bikes have been going for as much as £3000 and some for as little as £10.
"This kind of sale will always appeal to a lot of people, the numbers are in the hundreds. Some serious buyers and many just looking around."
