THREE of the area's leading assistant professionals are taking the high roads to Glasgow.
Selby Golf Club's Marcus Maith, Simon Appleton of The York GC in Strensall and Richard Nutten of Pannal GC in Harrogate, clinched places in the final of the Sunderland of Scotland Masters tournament to be held at the Cawder complex in Glasgow on June 23-25.
All three shone in the qualifier held at Malton and Norton GC, where Maith fired a three under-par 69. Appleton and Nutten were close behind both on 71.
For 22-year-old Wigginton-born Appleton it's his second successive appearance in the Sunderland of Scotland Masters final after he battled through from last year's qualifier at Eaglescliffe.
Appleton, who has been four years at The York, got his Malton and Norton score back on track after being one of the early competitors to be hampered by the heavy morning dew.
Appleton recovered with three birdies on the inward nine to seal a second successive Scottish sojourn.
His next outing will however be next week at Lindrick GC in the Northern Region assistants' championship along with Fulford GC's Guy Wills and Chris Tyson from Malton and Norton GC.
