FORMER top apprentice Fergal Lynch, who has moved to North Yorkshire this season in an attempt to revive his flagging career, is starting to see a turn-around in his fortunes.

The 21-year-old jockey, who is based at Thirsk, can take advantage of a call-up from Sir Michael Stoute at Redcar tomorrow by landing the Sedbergh Median Auction Maiden Stakes on Nabonassar.

Lynch will be delighted to rejoin forces with Stoute, for whom he won the Tote-Ebor Handicap at York on Clerkenwell in 1996 when he was a high-flying apprentice with Reg Hollinshead.

Lynch's fortunes have slipped dramatically since then but this talented rider knows where he went wrong and is determined to make full use of his second chance.

Nabonassar, who showed plenty of promise to finish second on his only outing last season, has plenty going for him in this seven furlongs contest, and is confidently selected to start the campaign on a winning note.

Lynch also has good prospects on Whizz Kid in the Clifton Wood Fillies' Handicap.Sidelined for the whole of last season, Whizz Kid popped-up at a big price in an apprentices' race at Ripon recently.

Although done no favours by the handicapper since then the five-year-old is trained by Milton Bradley, a man who has a remarkable record of improving horses.

In the Pat Phoenix Handicap, Bold Amusement should not be overlooked in the hands of Lindsay Charnock.

Scott Cunningham's veteran performer ran a cracking race on his reappearance at Thirsk to finish fifth to Legal Issue after being stone last of the 18 runners for most of the way.

Stepping up in distance here on a course where he has been successful in the past Bold Amusement can bring a smile to the faces of his supporters.

At Brighton, Newlands Corner has an outstanding chance in the Go Racing Free With The Tote Handicap.

The John Akehurst-trained sprinter was beaten just over five lengths into seventh place by Pips Song in a 20-runner handicap at Leicester last Saturday.

That performance is even more creditable when you take into account that Newlands Corner was 6lb out of the handicap, was slowly away, and also met trouble in running.

She has a huge chance here in the hands of Tony Clark.

Malibu Man should take plenty of catching in the Brighton Racecourse Antiques Fair This Weekend Claiming Stakes.

A very speedy individual, Eric Wheeler's charge underlined his well-being with a recent success in a similar race at Folkestone.
