THE claim made in the City of York bus card advertisement which appeared on April 22 is not quite correct. It is asserted that York senior citizens purchasing a card can 'travel anywhere by bus in York for a single fare of 37p'.
However if you live in Copmanthorpe, half the weekday daytime services and all evening and Sunday services are barred to card holders; worse still, at Stockton-on-the-Forest, resident card holders cannot use any of their local buses.
The reason is that whereas seven of the bus companies serving York have joined the scheme, Yorkshire Coastliner have not. I leave readers to reflect what damage such unilateral action does to the national aim of increasing the use made of public transport.
