TWO thoughts about transport...
1: The A64 speed limit idea. A 50 mph speed limit from Tadcaster East to beyond the Copmanthorpe traffic lights might cost two measly minutes' travelling time compared to 70 mph, with a massive gain in safety, especially in heavy traffic. What would be needed would be a 'feed-down' system with a 60 mph buffer zone at each end. Also cameras which flashed at every vehicle doing more than 55 mph in the 50 zone.
2: Smoking on public transport, buses and trains. The number of people who have a last drag on a cigarette then got on a bus immediately. Do they know it takes up to five minutes to clear the smoke from their lungs, so technically speaking they are still smoking (breathing out smoke) in non-smoking accommodation? What about asthmatics and bronchitics who could be landed in hospital with a bad attack for this reason? Does no one remember Roy Castle nowadays?
