York College are offering a free shot at tip-top fitness courtesy of FA Premiership boom club Leeds United.

The College have teamed up with the improving elite outfit to devise a 'Sport for Life' course, which is to be launched officially at the home clash against leaders Manchester United this Sunday.

And for a limited time there will be 2,000 free places on the course offered by York College. Once those places are filled the course will cost £175 per entrant.

Mapped out in conjunction with Leeds United the course is aimed at anyone aged over 16, who has a keen interest in exercise and fitness leading to the Introductory Certificate in Exercise and Fitness qualification.

Its purpose is 'to improve performance, enhance personal development and gain a real understanding of the benefits of exercise and fitness' thanks to the programme featuring training techniques used by Leeds United.

As flexible as exercise itself the course does not even entail going to College, but is instead based on study at home through a series of workbooks.

The 'Sport for Life' programme allows participants to study at their own pace.

The course, which is expected to comprise 90 hours' total of work, involves the study of three workbooks. The first two contain step by step learning activities leading to the third workbook in which students design and run their own personal exercise programme over a six-week spell.

To pass students have to complete two questionnaires and the exercise logbook for workbook three.

Successful students will then be presented with a certificate at a ceremony at Leeds United's Elland Road base in October.
