What a tremendous sporting achievement. Rarely do we see such skill on the ball allied to unbeatable experience.

No, we are not talking about Manchester United's victory over Juventus in the European Cup semi-final last night - although that was a remarkable achievement.

Instead, we are saluting Myrtle Kendal, still playing tennis at the age of 88.

The United players are now enjoying the glory that comes from reaching the pinnacle of professional sport. But Myrtle epitomises what sport means to most of us - a fun, sociable hobby.

Her speed across the court may not be what it once was. But her enthusiasm for the game has not waned after 72 years of playing.

More power to her tennis elbow.
