I was bemused by the contrasting articles which appeared on page five (Evening Press, April 20).
On the one hand was a moving article about Kosovo which revealed that "generous readers have raised an amazing £8,500". Sandra Howarth of UNICEF is now urging businesses to take part in a 'dress down day' where employees will pay for the privilege of wearing casual clothes for a day. She went on to say "even if you only pay 50p or £1 you can make a difference and save lives".
On the same page was an article about New Year's Eve which revealed that the Dean Court Hotel will be charging £1,999 for a double room for three nights (I am sure they are not alone on this) and at least one night club will be charging a £100 entrance fee.
This is pure exploitation of the celebration of the 2,000th birthday of our Lord Jesus Christ who preached that we must all share our good fortune with those less fortunate.
We read in the Bible that Jesus threw the money lenders out of the temple for exploiting his father's house.
It would seem that 2,000 years later we still haven't learned the lesson.
