A brand new pizza, devised and developed by staff from York's three restaurants and then tried out on their customers, has been launched nationwide this week.
The pizza, called The Italian, will be promoted in a high-profile TV advertising campaign due to begin tonight during coverage of Manchester United's big European match against Italian giants Juventus.
Sean Colmer, duty manager at the Pavement restaurant, played a key role in devising the pizza, which has a new thin and crispy base and a new sauce and which replaces the Neapolitan.
Originally to be called the Classic, it underwent a series of changes - including a name-change - partly in response to the reaction of customers at the restaurants in Pavement, Parliament Street and Clifford Street.
