Councillor Rod Hills (Letters, April 16) talks of Labour's forward-looking pledge - yet we are still awaiting the fulfilment of the five pledges given at the last election. So a pledge to provide computer in the home of every primary school child needs some more details.
To what standards are these computers going to be? Will this include all the software? Are these computers to be given even to children who may already have a computer at home? Who is to supervise their use? Are these computers to have access to the Internet? What if the child's home has no telephone; is the city council prepared to provide a phone connection and running costs?
Come on Coun Hills, the list of questions to be answered is endless on this pledge. How much is this going to cost the ratepayers of York?

....Rod Hills has heralded his party's proposal to give computers to all primary school children. Given that his ward was amongst those highlighted as the poorest in the city (Evening Press, April 16), shouldn't he be more concerned with creating jobs and investment, rather than giving freebies to middle-class children?
