The revelation by Hugh Bayley of 140 jobs being created at the new Defence Vetting Agency in York (Evening Press, April 16) is clearly meant to give the impression that 140 people at present unemployed will have the opportunity of obtaining a job.
Sadly, this it is yet another example of the half truths which have now become the norm from him and this Government.
On reading the article further it transpires that 153 civil servant jobs will disappear following closure of the existing Divisional HQ.
Although my maths is not brilliant, according to my calculations this would seem to be a reduction of 13 jobs located in York.
In addition, according to the article, at least 118 of the existing civil servants will be recruited to the 'new' jobs leaving very few if any to be recruited from the unemployed.
