Mr Mackay's nervous twitches would have gone out of control upon hearing that inmates of one Yorkshire prison are asking to be moved because the staff are too friendly.
If classic television comedy Porridge had been set in the Wolds Prison, it would have been called Choice Of Breakfast. Prison officer Mackay would have been forced to address Fletch as either Norman or Mr Fletcher, and Fletch would have responded using the officer's first name - whatever that may be. No wonder some real-life inmates find this topsy-turvy prison environment confusing. For some, being treated like a human being has come as too much of a shock. They have been transferred to less enlightened jails where they can relax once more in an austere and antagonistic environment.
