Youngsters were to the fore in York City reserves' 3-0 win over Notts County.

Midfielder Lee Bullock starred alongside the transfer-listed Steve Agnew, while up front another member of the successful FA Youth Cup team James Turley dovetailed well with Neil Tolson.

City caretaker chief Neil Thompson hailed the performance. "Notts County only had a young team out, but we were very solid and passed the ball around particularly well.

"Bullock and Agnew did well in midfield while Turley was a handful up front."

The City goals were shared by defender Graham Rennison, winger Craig Skinner and Tolson.

Meanwhile, midfield schemer Alan Pouton could be hauled before the Football Association after reaching 11 bookings for the season.

Club secretary Keith Usher has now confirmed Pouton's caution against Millwall was his 11th of the season, as originally reported in Monday's Evening Press.

Meanwhile results in the relegation battle more suited City last night than during their drawn clash with hosts Northampton 24 hours earlier.

Luton Town, and more significantly, Colchester United were beaten, though Wycombe had to thank Devine intervention for keeping their drop-avoiding hopes alive with a last-minute leveller at Stoke City - Saturday's visitors to Bootham Crescent.

Luton were dispatched at Maine Road, where Manchester City moved into third place after goals in the opening ten minutes from Paul Dickov and Tony Vaughan.

Away at the New Den Colchester also succumbed to an early brace, Millwall's Kim Grant on target in the first and 16th minutes.

Wycombe, however, continued their mini-revival at the Britannia Stadium against Stoke City, who visit Bootham Crescent on Saturday. Sean Devine fired them ahead in the first-half only for Stoke to counter through Ray Wallace and David Oldfield. But then Devine struck a minute from time for a valuable point.

Manager Brian Little admitted his side's play-off ambitions are all but ended and said of last night's performance: "We made too many bad decisions in the last 10 minutes. We allowed Wycombe to come at us and almost invited them to equalise. I thought we deserved to win the game but we didn't and it's going to be very difficult to reach the play-offs now."
