In response to the article, A64 Crash Driver Banned (Evening Press, March 31), I am the passenger who was in the car in collision with one driven by Mr Pyman and would like to clarify a few things from that report.
My neck was broken in two places, for which I was transferred from Scarborough Hospital to Hull Royal Infirmary, where an emergency operation was carried out. But for the skill of specialist Mr Matthew I could have been paralysed from the neck down. I had fractured ribs, sternum and clavicle also injuries to my foot.
I am still off work on 25 per cent pay with no date to return.
He was an advanced driver who is not immune from making mistakes as the letter from the chairman of York Advanced Motorists admitted.
By his own admission he made two of the most basic mistakes even a provisional driver would have learned:
Never be impatient
Never overtake on a bend
For these two basic mistakes I and my family are still paying.
