YORKSHIRE children need big pockets. They are among the best off in the country, thanks to the generous allowance of local parents.
The latest pocket money survey by ice cream maker Wall's confounds the mean Yorkshire stereotype. Youngsters here have enjoyed a whopping 20 per cent pay rise this year, and are nearly a pound a week better off than their peers in costly London.
The combined spending power of Britain's children is nearly £29 million a week. That is a mouth-watering figure for Rowntree's, Terry's and sweet-makers everywhere.
Impressively, many children resist the urge to splash out impulsively. Wall's found that more than a quarter are putting some in the piggy bank.
It is these careful young economists who are most likely to emulate the grown-ups who made it into the Rich List published this week.
