I write regarding the six-storey Acomb Road development which was turned down last week. Those of us living close by the site thank the Evening Press for its fair reporting; York councillors for their wisdom and the 70-plus people who wrote in for objecting.
Everyone in York is affected and should pray the developers do not appeal because, realistically, the planning department cannot limit its blessings to one place or firm.
Every developer produces pretty drawings and a case for building as much as possible.
Permission for jumping up to six storeys so close to two-storey houses could encourage others to try for ten storeys and make me sell-up, and move guiltily away with £2 million, because my site would offer a nicely matching block up to twice as long just opposite.
