John Grogan is the best friend the miners have ever had in Selby (Evening Press April 7). Within weeks of being elected he was arguing the case for the coal industry making himself unpopular with ministers.
If the Government had not changed its energy policy and slowed down the dash for gas, the Selby coalfield would now be history. He is helping local miners with their campaign to get pensions at 50.
It is Arthur Scargill not John Grogan who should be resigning. As long as he is President of the National Union of Miners, the case of the ordinary miner will never get properly heard. My advice to John Grogan is to keep speaking up for Selby and not be bullied by Arthur Scargill.
