Businesses should tighten up the standards of service they offer clients.

So said international marketing guru Chris Frederiksen, speaking at a marketing seminar organised by two of York's leading professional firms.
Mr Frederiksen, who pioneered tactical marketing for firms across the world after he started up his own accountancy firm in San Francisco, explained to the guests about the increasing competition in the workplace and the crucial advantage they can gain by actively marketing themselves or employing full-time marketing managers.
The seminar was arranged jointly by chartered accountants Clive Owen & Co and Langleys Solicitors. The purpose was to introduce their clients to American-style marketing devices and techniques as a means of broadening and strengthening their client-base.
Mr Frederiksen also highlighted the need for businesses to tighten up the standards of service they offer clients. Addressing issues such as the response time and telephone manner of staff are fundamental in improving customer take-up.
Roger Taylor, partner at Langleys Solicitors, said: "The evening was extremely enjoyable.
