YORK & County Press, publishers of the Evening Press, have bought the York and Wetherby Advertiser.

The deal will add the free weekly paper to the company's portfolio, which already includes the York and Selby Star series and the paid-for Ryedale-based Gazette & Herald.

And it will offer an even broader service to readers and advertisers.

The Advertiser's two editions, serving York and Wetherby, will be retained, with enhanced advertising and a lively, colourful new look to turn the loss-making paper into profit.

Staff at the Advertiser, based just a short distance along Walmgate from the Evening Press headquarters, will be given the opportunity to move over to York & County Press.
