THE thorny issue of the missing bush has knotted many a Yorkshire brow. But now we can stem those anxieties with the announcement that the White Rose of Yorkshire is being reinstated.

The original plant has been removed from the Merchant Adventurers' Hall gardens in York, yes: but a replacement is promised soon.

This, we are told, will bear bigger and better blooms. The world-famous symbol of Yorkshire will once again flower in the county's capital. And as for the scent - a rose from any other region would not smell as sweet.
