JUST like P A Patterson of Copmanthorpe (Letters, March 18), I am also a York motorist who pays for the privilege to drive on the city's roads. But unlike him (or her), most days I choose to cycle to work rather than contributing to York's traffic problems.
As a York resident I also pay council tax.
Therefore I and many other York cyclists do pay for the cycle network and, more importantly, we elect to use it.
Perhaps because we're cycling and not driving we should pay less road tax. As for cyclists causing hold-ups, how many six-mile tailbacks have been recorded because there are too many bikes on the road? My advice to P A Patterson is: On yer bike!
