It was a shame there had to be a loser. As forecast it was nip and tuck, only a wire's width separating the two players.

Hields (City Arms) lost 3-2 but was a winner on the tons-count, which earned her the Player of the Night award.

Against Kerr's six tons, Hields hit eight hundreds and three 140's. But at the end of the show, it's doubles that count and Kerr proved the better.

Kerr's attempt to win the Drawn Pairs final with Mary Minto was thwarted by her Brigadier colleague Carole Layne, partnering Layerthorpe's Julie Ashton, but Kerr teamed up with Jo Hodges and Freda Metcalfe to tie up the Triples trophy 2-0 over Slip's Brenda Robinson, Gill Warriner and Pat Carins.

Dawn Exton grabbed both doubles to take her and Muriel Britton to victory in the Pairs event against their Wenlock Arms team colleagues Michelle Britton and Karen Fratson.

Wenlock added the captain-vice captain competition cup to their haul when Michelle Britton and Exton defeated Brigadier 'B' team's Sue Lowery and Jo Hodges 2-0.

The awards were presented by John Smith's Brewery sales manager Lee Walsh.

The closing matches of the York Exhibition Hotel Group League centred on the jockeying for positions in division two.

Cygnet 'A' confirmed their claim to the title by beating Mount 6-3 in which Mark Mason brilliantly recorded 16 darts and John Dykes, 21, ending on bullseye.

This denied Ainsty the chance of top place, but, in any event they slipped up 6-3 at Groves despite big scoring from Tony Chapman then Sven Smith. Chapman paired with Barry Davidson to snatch the aggregate in the last game and that point subsequently took Turf out of the equation.

Turf again had Ray McInally in terrific form. His 17 darts turned the match towards a 6-3 result for Turf against Flag whose Paul Calpin was a 180 scorer.

Gary Wensley included a maximum but Green Tree 'B' went down 5-4 to Dringhouses, a score which secured the division one runners-up prize.

The top performers for Dringhouses were Alan Shipley and big scoring by Chas Ramsden topped by a matchwinning 110 finish.

Steve Machin was Osbaldwick's outstanding player. An excellent 124 on bull check gave him 15 darts and he sealed the match with Saddle by going out, in the pairs, on 114. Russ Armstrong contributed a fine 18 darts.

Green Tree 'B's Gary Wensley held on to win the Three Fastest Finishes competition aggregating 43 with games of 12,15 and 16 darts despite strong challenges from Turf's Ray McInally (44 - 12,16,16) and Russ Armstrong (Osbaldwick) who shot 46 with 15,15,16 darts.Mick Wilsden (Shepherds) recorded 47 with two 15's and 17.
