WHILE the promises from Yorkshire Water and The York Waterworks Company on reducing bills after they have merged sound very reassuring, the bills issued by both these organisations this month tell a different story. Firstly, Yorkshire Water. My bill last year was £80.37; this year it is £86.60, a rise of 7.7 per cent, over twice the rate of inflation.
York Waterworks fares a little better... last year £56.53; this year £58.42, a 3.3 per cent increase. Perhaps someone from the water companies could explain why these increases are necessary when they have publicly stated they are going to reduce bills. We are having the wool pulled over our eyes.
