But David Dunne, of the Ryedale Rehabilitation Centre in Norton, has been looking after 15 of the birds following the River Derwent floods.
Other homeless animals he and Jean Thorpe have taken in have included ferrets, dogs and a badly oiled goose, which was released back into the wild after being given a thorough clean-up.
David is pictured with Jean and a rescued barn owl at the centre.
