A man who was beaten up and left unconscious by thugs in York said today he was scared to go out at night after the attack.

Victim: Keith Potter at the snicket off Cornlands Road, Acomb, York, where he was beaten unconscious by two robbers

Keith Potter was walking to a Chinese takeaway in Cornlands Road, Acomb, from his home in Tedder Road when the attack took place at about 11.45pm on Monday.

After punching him to the ground, the two men stole his engagement ring and rifled through his wallet.

He said: "I was walking along the alleyway from Thoresby Road to Cornlands Road and two men were walking towards me and one had already passed me.

"I said 'Excuse me' and one of them swore at me. Then one punched me in the back and the other one punched me in the face.

"My wife, Janice, came looking for me about half-an-hour later because she was worried as I am epileptic.

"She found me and rang for an ambulance from the White Rose pub opposite."

He said he had come round as he was being carried into the ambulance and had been treated at York District Hospital.

He said: "I'm still very upset about it and won't be going out on a night at all.

"The worst thing was they took my engagement ring - that meant a lot."

Police are still appealing for any information about the incident. One of the men was described as white, 5ft 10in tall with a tattoo of some sort of bird on his neck. Anyone with information should ring 01904 631321.
