Much has been written about the Coppergate development but little about the proposed loss of the Castle Car Park.
I have always lived on the South or West side of York and use this car park often.
The car park is always well-used, whether by people shopping or attending the Grand Opera House.
A lot of women drivers I know (including myself) do not like using multi-storey car parks and I presume the new multi-storey car park that will replace the Castlegate one will not be left open on an evening.
I could see the closure of the car park having a knock-on effect for attendances at the Grand Opera House.
Has the council taken a survey of the people who regularly use the car park asking their opinion on alternative parking?
Maybe, like me, they would reluctantly think about turning to out-of-town shopping.
By all means redevelop the run-down buildings near the River Foss, but keep open and re-surface the Castle Car Park for the use of York residents who enjoy shopping in the city.
Miss J Mawer,
York.
