Cup fever comes to town for York's amateur clubs as well as its professionals this weekend.

While the Wasps hit the Challenge Cup trail against Egremont on Sunday, two of the city's clubs are in action in the BNFL National Cup on Saturday.

Yorkshire League side York Groves entertain Hillsborough Hawks at Burdyke in the second round of the competition.

The Hawks are going well in the second division of the Pennine League, currently lying third and two points behind leaders Guiseley, but they are an unknown quantity to the Terriers.

Both sides go into the game on the back of morale boosting victories, Groves beating Mulberry in a Yorkshire League division three clash and Hillsborough winning 32-12 in the first round of the cup at North West Counties division four side Bamber Bridge.

Groves coach Alan Mitchell, who is still hopeful of a place in the third division play-offs, is looking for his side to maintain the same form shown in the last game and has no serious injury problems.

The York side will be keeping their eye on the weather and will hold a pitch inspection tomorrow.

New Earswick All Blacks get back into action with a trip to Crosfields 'A' in the cup.

Paddy Bradford's men, who did not play last week after their game against Eastmoor was postponed, should have the upper hand against the North West Counties division five outfit.

Crosfields 'A' have had a mixed season which currently sees them lying in mid-table and were beaten 14-10 by Rochdale Mayfield last week.

All Blacks were beaten 4-2 by the Crosfields first team in the NCL second division earlier this season but should prove too strong for their reserve side.

Some of the All Blacks 'A' team will be given a run-out as Bradford takes the opportunity to blood some of his less experienced players.

It is likely to be a similar side to the one that beat Keighley Albion in their last match with Alliance players stepping in as cover.

Definitely missing are influential second row forward Lee McTigue and prop Paul Goldsmith who have cruciate ligament damage. Both players could miss the rest of the season.

Full back Julian Ramsey will undergo a fitness test on a troublesome knee though he is expected to be fit.

York Acorn's cup clash at Eccles has been put back to next Saturday as their opponents are playing Oldham in the Challenge Cup on Monday night.

That will force struggling Acorn to postpone their planned league fixture at London Skolars which will be played on a date to be arranged.

Heworth are exempt from the second round of the National Cup so they have a free weekend.

They will next be in action at Wigan St Patricks in the NCL premier division next Saturday.

In the Yorkshire League, second division Selby are at home to Prince of Wales while the third division's bottom club Scarborough visit Armthorpe.

York Acorn 'A' look to make it three wins in a row in the Yorkshire Alliance second division when they travel to Drighlington.
