Council engineers were called out today after this boat became wedged under the Blue Bridge on the River Foss in York. The boat was spotted stuck next to the bridge this morning just before the point where the Foss joins the Ouse.
A spokeswoman for the Environment Agency said: "The barge was moored on the Foss basin and broke loose in the night.
"It drifted down the river under the Foss barrier and it's become stuck across the mouth of the Foss where the Foss flows into the River Ouse.
"The bridge could be propping it up."
She said the agency had reported the incident to the Foss Navigation, part of the City of York Council.
Mike Tavener, consultant engineer at the council, said he had not come across a similar incident before.
He said: "We could release it by lifting the bridge.
"If there is any damage to the bridge we would be concerned."
