It is good to see someone of the status of Simon Howard supporting the National Lottery.
His intervention has helped to secure Terrington village shop's lottery terminal..
Whether Mr Howard himself has a flutter is unclear. Certainly a jackpot win would help with those hefty Castle Howard maintenance bills.
But the many villagers who do enjoy the game will be delighted by the news.
Lottery organiser Camelot has a duty to provide outlets for the game in rural as well as urban areas. It is meant to be a national game, after all.
We recently reported how some Terrington residents are already stocking up on supplies in case the Millennium Bug brings chaos come next January.
We must therefore hope that the lottery machine is year 2000 compliant.
Just in case, though, villagers should perhaps stockpile their lucky numbers.
