Many congratulations to the Rowntree Youth Theatre for a most entertaining evening at their production of Fiddler On The Roof - a truly excellent performance from all involved. It would be a great pity if this were indeed to be their swan song after so many years.
They deserve all the support we can give them.
In fact, where would we be without our amateur companies? There has been little at York Theatre Royal to attract us recently apart from the pantomime, and a glance at the programme for the coming months does nothing to whet my appetite I'm afraid. Do we really want to be entertained by a teenage drama on the subject of drugs, for example? The only bright sparks look like being provided again by the amateurs; but I really hope I'm wrong - only the box office can give the answer in the long run.

...WE have just returned from Rowntree Youth Group's final performance of Fiddler On The Roof at Rowntree Theatre and would like to congratulate everyone concerned with this polished production.
It has been rumoured that this amateur group could fold, but we sincerely hope this won't happen. Not many amateur groups have so many young men in their ranks and this gives the show a professional finish. Long may Rowntree Youth Group flourish.
