Police are investigating reports of two unidentified flying objects seen over the Selby area.
The UFOs were spotted at 3.15pm yesterday above Escrick by Evening Press reporter David Wiles as he drove along the A19 towards York.
At first David thought the bright objects could be car headlights reflecting on his windscreen.
"But when I pulled over into a lay-by and got out of the car they were still there," he said.
"They were like two fluorescent strip lights, moving together and quite slowly westwards. It was very eerie - I have never seen anything quite like it."
Yorkshire UFO enthusiast Simon Ritchie said that North Yorkshire has in the past been a hotbed of UFO activity.
"There have not been many reported sightings in recent years, but it may just be that people are not coming forward with information.
"Most sightings - 98 per cent - aren't UFOs and can be attributed to something, but there is still that two per cent that remain unexplained."
North Yorkshire Police spokesman Tony Lidgate said there was always a small trickle of sightings around the county, normally concentrated over the Dales and the Moors.
"Whenever possible we check with the RAF and the Civil Aviation Authority to see if there is anything to provide an explanation," he said.
"As yet we have not heard anything to confirm or otherwise this reported sighting."
Mr Lidgate added that it had been several years since there had been any considerable cluster of sightings.
No-one at RAF Linton-on-Ouse was available for comment.
