Yorkshire has lost another of its characters. Bill Lee, who competed in cycling competitions around the world, has pedalled his last.
Born a Yorkshireman, he was determined to go out a Yorkshireman. So he stipulated that his funeral must be traditional Tyke: doorstop sandwiches, strong tea and if you want something stronger - buy your own.
Both teacup and pint-pot will be raised in his memory at his funeral. And we should all mourn the loss of such a colourful personality.
As life becomes more hectic and homogeneous, there seem to be fewer Bill Lees around. We must cherish those who remain.
