POLICE hunting two armed robbers who raided a York supermarket say they are following up important new information given by witnesses who came forward following Evening Press appeals.
Two men armed with a handgun and a concrete slab threatened staff and customers before trying to smash through security glass at the Spa supermarket on Huntington Road last Tuesday.
Now a man who was seen using a mobile phone outside the shop has been traced, along with a female customer and a driving instructor who may have seen the getaway car at the back of the Booker Cash and Carry.
Detective Inspector Geoff Dodd of York Police said: "Appeals through the Evening Press have been very helpful in tracing these witnesses.
"These people have been able to provide us with some very useful information, which is helping us move forward with the inquiry."We do believe there is someone out there who has an idea as the identity of the men involved.
"We would remind them that they can provided information in confidence through Crimestoppers and there is a reward available if that leads to the someone being charged with this crime.
"All we ask is that they get in touch - they will not have to give their name or address."
