In reply to Lynne Townend (Evening Press, January 4) it must be said that no one in their right minds would condone or get any pleasure out of foxhounds chasing and killing a cat. It was a most distressing and unfortunate incident.

What more could the hunt master do other than apologise? Does Lynne Townend call for their blood?

Sinnington Hunt show themselves twice weekly so any interested party will be welcome, where I am certain the hunt master and huntsmen will courteously defend their right to hunt. Of course they enjoy doing it. Does Lynne Townend do anything she doesn't enjoy?

It isn't only foxhounds that would chase a cat. There aren't many greyhounds or terriers that wouldn't chase and kill a cat. Cars often run over and kill cats. I never heard of anyone calling for the banning of cars, terriers or greyhounds.

All this unfortunate incident did was to provide extra fodder for the anti-hunting brigade, most of whom were most conspicuous by their absence on Boxing Day, possibly still bloated from Christmas Day. Who killed the goose, the turkey or the porker? Not a hound in sight.
