Is it my imagination or is increasing a fine for urinating in public from £2 to £500 excessive (Evening Press, January 2)?
Dog fouling is a similar story with fines rising from £20 to £500 or £1,000. Anna Semlyn's letter (January 2) informs us that for careless drivers who injure or kill a fine of perhaps £150 and some penalty points may be handed out.
It is time to balance the fines against the crimes with respect to individual incomes. I would suggest fines to be related to income, for example dog fouling one week's wage, urinating in an inappropriate location one week's wage, speeding or careless driving, three weeks' wages as a minimum. This may deter some of the high flyers from dashing around.
