The sale of former York City striker Neil Campbell from Scarborough to Colchester United has still to go through.

City are expected to bank around £3,000 from the reported £15,000 deal as part of a sell-on clause when Campbell left City for the McCain Stadium.

But it has emerged the striker, who lives on Teesside, is still mulling over Colchester's offer of a contract covering the remainder of this season and the next. He is expected to give the Layer Road club a definite answer today.

In a separate deal with Colchester, the Seasiders have already secured the services of 19-year-old midfielder David Rainford on loan until the end of the season from the second division club.

After making a big impression and weighing in with seven goals last season when Boro reached the third division play-offs, Campbell has struggled for form this term.

Unable to claim a regular first team place, he was shipped out on loan to Conference side Telford United in October.

n Boro's second round Auto Windscreen Shield tie at Wigan, postponed last night, will now be played next Tuesday night.
