Derwent Table Tennis Club second team came from behind to beat Darlington III 5-3 which could move them up to second or third place in division two North of the British League.
Andrew Nicholls suffered a shock defeat to Steve Cooper in the opening game. Darren Ashall beat Michael Marsden in straight sets to level the scores, then Richard Shirt and Simon James won to put the Selby-based side 3-1 ahead.
Ashall surprisingly lost to Cooper then Nicholls destroyed Gary Webstell, and Shirt blasted John Bousfield off the table to clinch victory. James lost the last game to Marsden.
Derwent thirds beat Darlington fourths 6-2 to stay second in division three North. Player of the match Chris Nicholls and Mick Wilcockson both won two games while Paul Eastwood and Phillip Lowe both scored one win.
This leaves Derwent thirds four points behind unbeaten league leaders Jack Spratt Wellhouse.
