The image sent to our offices by Uri, and the one he was trying to communicate to readers telepathically, was the star. Readers responded with pictures including a desert island with palm trees, and a castle. One reader connected, however, and sent in a star. It was signed only 'Andy S'.

If Andy would like to get in touch with Maxine Gordon on (01904) 653051 ext 369, we can arrange his prize. Now on with Uri's Weird & Wonderful world...

Day 386 - Friday, December 11

If you're feeling low, computers will know - you can put your shirt on it. Clothes woven from electronic thread, designed in a £400,000 project by scientists at the Georgia Technology Institute, will relay information via satellite to medics when soldiers are wounded. The design is being adapted for use in hospitals and emergency services, and could soon be on sale for around £20-£30.

Day 385 - Saturday, December 12

Aliens face a new threat from mankind - arrest! More than 20 officers have answered a Police Review advert appealing for stories of close encounters. One police driver described being snatched from his car and abducted for medical examination on board a UFO.

Day 384 - Sunday, December 13

Nazareth, the hometown of Jesus, is being reconstructed and will open to tourists in 2000. Stone watchtowers and a 20-acre terraced farmscape are being restored by around 200 Jewish, Christian and Muslim volunteers in a £35 million venture. Ross Joseph Voss, the site archaeologist, says: "We want this to be a living village. People on the land are actually going to be working, not acting - pruning the olive trees, pruning the vineyards, pressing the oil."

Day 383 - Monday, December 14

Thailand's government has accused the monks of Wat Dhammakaya temple of faking a miracle with lasers and mass hypnosis. Around 20,000 people believed they saw a blazing image of Buddha in the sky above the temple, where donations had been falling. Takings have soared since the miracle.

Day 382 - Tuesday, December 15

An even more amazing Buddhist spectacle is visible at Lancaster prison, where inmates and warders have joined in a meditation ritual called Vipassana. The technique, which involves 12 hours of daily silent contemplation for ten days, has led to drastically lower rates of re-offending among American prisoners, and could be used throughout British jails in the next Millennium. After volunteering for the course, a convict named Brian said: "It's been the toughest ten days of my life."

Day 381 - Wednesday, December 16

Pope John Paul II is asking Catholics to mark the Millennium by giving up drinking and smoking for at least a day, in a papal bull called Incarnationis Mysterium. His church has also launched a rosary shaped like a credit card, to be slipped easily into a wallet. The basic version costs £4 - the golden card, studded with minute diamonds, retails at £200.

Day 380 - Thursday, December 17

A San Diego businessman is planning to send a rocket into the asteroid belt - and start staking claims in it. Jim Benson, a millionaire ex-software designer, believes the band of space rock contains priceless minerals, and has joined forces with the creator of the Mars Pathfinder camera system, Peter Smith, to launch the £30 million mission. "Space is a place, not a government programme," he says. Contact Uri Geller at urigeller.com and e-mail him at: urigeller@compuserve.com
