DOES anyone else agree with me that too much damage is being done to grass verges and pavements in York by parked cars?

It seems odd that most of us keep our own lawns in beautiful order, but when it comes to the verges bordering our roads, anything goes.

Frequently they are turned into muddy quagmires in the winter and look terrible. Add to that the damage to pavements caused by cars driving over them to park and it adds up to a real problem.

Who pays for the damage to be repaired? Who pays for the claims when people trip over the broken paving? We all do through council tax. I wonder if a York campaign to reduce pavement and verge parking should be started?

Perhaps fewer people would do it if they realised that the resulting mess is offensive to others.

As a last resort, some of the resources currently used to pursue pavement cyclists, or dog owners might be usefully redirected to what amounts to criminal damage.
