Innocent it may look, but this little Furby is causing quite a stir among anxious York parents.
It appeared to be the only available Furby in town today, and the cash bids have been flooding in to one bemused grandmother who has put it up for sale.
The Acomb woman bought it for her 18-month granddaughter for Christmas, but when she got it home she didn't feel it was appropriate.
So she advertised it in the Evening Press and has since been inundated with calls from parents eager to get their hands on the "must-have" toy.
"I bought it weeks ago from a York shop, just went straight in and paid for it," she said.
"But when I took it out of the box I just thought it was really ugly."
Within hours of the advert going in the Evening Press, the woman, who paid £29.99 for the cuddly character, was being offered up to £100 for the creature.
"I don't really understand what all the fuss is about, but the Furby will go to the highest bidder after it has been in the paper for three days," she added.
Demand for the Furbies in York is being described as "crazy" by some sales staff.
A spokeswoman for Toymaster, Kings Square, York, said they had been inundated with calls from anxious parents.
She added: "We're literally getting 20 if not more calls a day. We got six Furbys in about three months ago and that's all we've had."
