I would like to support the Archdeacon of York's remarks in the Evening Press regarding TV programmes. The subject and contents are objectionable. If you complain the response given is that they are reflecting society.

The evening programmes quoted by the Archdeacon are typical - senseless humour, a police series, The Cops, so bad we switched off after a few minutes, and a vice/sex programme.

We do seem to live in a materialist, sex obsessed world but surely we have a right to expect a reasonable selection of programmes. Instead of reflecting society, they are lowering the standards of society.

The producers of programmes should be made to realise their responsibility. The TV is an insidious subconscious indoctrinator.

This means that there is an acceptance of the standards shown, especially by the young and therefore a lowering of standards of what is accepted or acceptable.
