TWO former York Rugby League Club stars have been immortalised on Leeds Rhinos new Millennium shirt.

And a former Wasps director has also earned a place on the specially designed home jersey which will be worn by the Headingley outfit next season.

Jeff Moores and Jeff Stevenson are among the 29 Leeds greats to be honoured, along with Ray Batten who was a York director for 11 years.

Australian stand off Moores arrived at York from Leeds in the 1933-4 season and was instrumental in rejuvinating a Wasps side which reached three

Yorkshire Cup finals, winning two of them, during his five-year stay.

During his time at Leeds, where he made his debut in 1927, he boasted a record of 211 appearances, 98 tries and 25 goals.

Jeff Stevenson joined York in a £7,000 record transfer from Leeds in 1959. He had made 228 appearances over seven years at Headingley, scoring 67 tries and earning the captaincy of Great Britain.

Stevenson, a former landlord of The Fox and the Burton Stone, carved out a place in history by steering Britain to an Ashes series triumph over Australia in 1959.

He stayed at York for three seasons, playing 95 games and scoring 25 tries, before moving on to Hunslet.

Former Heworth star Batten spent his entire 15-year career at Leeds, making over 400 appearances and scoring 80 tries.

The stand-off and loose forward joined the Headingley outfit in 1962 after being spotted playing for Heworth and went on to play in two Challenge Cup finals, including the remarkable 1968 final when Don Fox missed a last minute conversion under the posts which would have won the cup for Wakefield.

He also earned five Great Britain caps before retiring in 1977.

Seven years later he was asked to become a director at York and stayed on the board for 11 years, helping to bring New Zealand favourites Tawera Nikau and Dave Watson to the club.

The new Leeds shirt, specially produced by manufacturers Asics, will be in Leeds' traditional colours of blue with three irregular central amber bands.

A shadow weave within the fabric will highlight 29 of the most famous names to represent the club during its 109-year history.

It will be worn for one season only and will feature a commemorative badge with the words Millennium Celebration, 1890-1999.
